The UK's FTSE 100 index has shattered the 10,000 barrier for the first time in history, riding a 22% rally in 2025 that outpaced both the Stoxx 600 and S&P 500. Banks and miners spearheaded the gains, marking the index's strongest performance since 2009.

European equities followed suit, with the Stoxx 600 reaching record highs as tech and commodity stocks dominated trading. Meanwhile, sterling held steady NEAR recent peaks at $1.3447, showing little movement against major counterparts.
